Sydney, December 31 – Talented filly Happy Hussy, a $110,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft, turned in a game effort to down the older mares at Rosehill on New Year’s Eve.

The David Payne trained filly was heavily backed and despite giving punters a scare when she settled back in the pack from a wide gate, she threaded her way clear to power home late and score a narrow victory in the Benchmark 79 event over 1400 metres.

Happy Hussy has won three of four starts since resuming from a spell and has the overall record of three wins and two seconds from seven starts with prizemoney just shy of $100,000.

“She’s an above average filly,” said David Payne.

“She was very soft as a two year-old so we gave her plenty of time, so she has a very bright future.”

A daughter of accomplished sire Hussonet (USA), who is now based at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia, Happy Hussy is a half-sister to Group III placed Prix du Sang and is the third winner for the Desert King (IRE) mare Morinda, a half-sister to Group II winner So Gorgeous, Group II winner Wild Queen and stakes-winner Cumbria.

Morinda traces back to the great matriarch Denise’s Joy through the Joy and Fun branch of the family and her current yearling, a filly by Sebring, has been entered by Yarraman Park for the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
