Saluting at Randwick on Saturday in the Listed ATC McKell Cup was promising stayer Sense of Occasion, an $80,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Beamish Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park.

The Joe Pride trained son of Street Sense (USA) has been racing consistently and relished the heavy track and step up to 2400 metres to capture his first Black Type win by three-quarters of a length.

Sense of Occasion was trained earlier in his career by the late Guy Walter, who laid the foundations for success for this up and coming stayer.

He has the overall record of five wins and five placings from 15 starts earning $231,325 for his happy group of owners.

“He showed acceleration at the end of 2400-metres which really impressed me,” Pride said.

“He’s only a four-year-old and his best is yet to come.”

Bred by Shadwell and foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Sense of Occasion is the second winner from Saywaan, a half-sister by Zabeel to Group I winner Rewaaya.

He was one of two stakes-winners sold by Yarraman Park on Saturday joining Look to the Stars, winner of the Group II BRC Sires Produce Stakes
