Melbourne, December 26 – The $100,000 Listed MRC Christmas Stakes at Caulfield on Boxing Day was won by classy sprinter Here De Angels, a $90,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Prepared by Melbourne Cup winning horseman Mark Kavanagh, Here De Angels over came an awkward barrier, a big weight and a wide run to win in great style.

A six year-old gelded son of accomplished shuttle sire Dehere (USA), Here de Angels is in great form and will most likely run in another Melbourne feature sprint in a fortnight.

"It was a good win," Kavanagh’s foreman Merv Harvey said. "He’s got a bit on them."
"Even though he had the weight to carry, he carries the weight well and the horse hasn’t been going any better."

Harvey said the race went according to plan and connections were feeling very confident of success a long way from home.

"You wanted to get on at the 600. He was just travelling so good."

Here De Angels was racing for the first time since running second, when beaten a nose, at Flemington over the carnival having won his previous race, a $100,000 contest, at Caulfield by almost three lengths.

"We decided to freshen him up after the spring carnival. He’s a bit of a hard horse to place."

"So we came to this race and there’s another one in a fortnight and we’ll play it by ear from there."

Here De Angels has turned out to be a great money spinner for his connections after being purchased for just $90,000 by Slade Bloodstock from the Yarraman draft at the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

His impressive record now reads out at 10 wins and four minor placings from 26 starts and earnings of over $570,000.

The fourth foal and only stakes-winner for the Kenmare (Fr) mare Angelic Belle, Here De Angels was bred by Lisa Randle and sold privately to Yarraman as a foal.

His dam was a minor winner at 1400 metres, but does come from the family of Group One winner Dashing Eagle and quality performers La Caissiere, Brief Embrace and Ken’s Joy.

Yarraman Park will present another outstanding draft of 30 youngsters at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast in January.
