Melbourne, September 3- Six year-old Catbird gelding Jennings falls into the veteran category these days, but he looked pretty spritely when scoring at Sandown on Wednesday for new trainer Anne Yates.

Jennings overcame a wide gate to contest the lead throughout and held on to win the Ratings 89 event over 1300 metres by a half head.

With six wins and six placings from 26 starts, Jennings has now won $169,988 in prizemoney and looks to have plenty of wins in him yet.

Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park Stud, Jennings fetched $80,000 at the 2004 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is the ninth foal of the Imposing mare Wycombe (NZ), a half-sister to highly successful sires Danewin and Commands.

Jennings is a full brother to good metropolitan winning filly Catseye Beach, who was retained by the Mitchell family and is the very last foal of 20-year old Wycombe, who sadly died at Yarraman Park last year.

Ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird made it a metropolitan double for the day when the Fred Kersley trained six year-old Observation won at Belmont.

The last of the Catbirds will sell at the yearling sales in 2009 and his progeny will be sadly missed.
