Sydney, September 2 – Champion trainer Chris Waller saddled seven of the nine runners in the first juvenile barrier trial of the season in Sydney at Rosehill on Tuesday morning with victory going to Stimac, a son of Darley shuttler Bernardini (USA).
Trialling in the colours of multiple Group I winner Boban, who is also by Bernardini, Stimac settled three wide behind the lead group before unleashing an impressive turn of foot under riding to win the 900 metre trial by a head in the time of 54.6 seconds.
The runner-up, Dinghu Mountain (Snitzel x Layette) raced in the lead division, also three wide throughout the trial, while the third placegetter Flaunting (Denman x Chosen) came from back near the tail of the field to finish third, 1-3/4 lengths away.
Stimac was a modest $40,000 Inglis Easter Session II purchase for Guy Mulcaster Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park.
Bred by Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Australasia, Stimac was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park and is from Yaasah (IRE), a half-sister by Distant View to stakes-winner Chercheuse, the dam of US Group I winner Questing.
