New Zealand, February 24 – The Listed Matamata Fairview Ford Slipper was decided in New Zealand on Saturday with victory going to Aussie bred El Cuento by half a length from the regally bred Redoute’s Choice colt Pierre Joseph, a $420,000 purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The second foal of former outstanding racemare Market Price, Pierre Joseph is trained by Stephen McKee and is showing enormous promise with a second on debut to flying filly Crossyourheart and now a Black Type placing.
His dam Market Price excelled up to 1900 metres, her 10 wins including a victory in the Group Two VRC Hardy Brothers Classic for mares, subsequently upgraded to Group One status, so it would be expected that the best of Pierre Joseph will not be seen until he gets over some more ground.
