Adelaide, February 10 – Snitzel’s little sister Viennese gained valuable Black Type on Saturday when she ran a bold race for second to unbeaten filly Augusta Proud in the Listed SAJC Sky Blue Thoroughbreds Stakes at Morphettville.

Purchased by John Ferguson on behalf of Darley for $1.4 million from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Viennese now has a win and a second from just three starts, with Lee Freedman confident the filly can snare a Black Type success of her own.

Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Viennese was bred by Francis Naude and is by Redoute’s Choice from the grand producing mare Snippets’ Lass, who sadly passed away last spring after foaling a colt by Fastnet Rock, who has progressed nicely in the care of his adoptive nanny.

A stakes-winning daughter of outstanding sire Snippets, Snippets’ Lass has been a star for Yarraman at Magic Millions going back to 2004, when her Group One winner Snitzel was purchased from their draft for $260,000 by Gerald Ryan.

Ryan returned the next year in 2005 to purchase a More Than Ready (USA) filly from Snippets’ Lass that made $350,000 and gained Black Type when racing as Weiner.

In 2006, Wadham Park parted with $775,000 to secure a Royal Academy (USA) filly from Snippets’ Lass that is yet to race and then last year Viennese proved the dearest of her sex at the sale.

Yarraman Park have a crackerjack consignment of 22 yearlings for Magic Millions this year including a Fastnet Rock colt from Snippets’ Lass to be offered as Lot 299.
