Hinchinbrook was in the frame at Randwick on Saturday with a brilliant return for his classy sprinter The Virginian and a speedy all the way win for progressive mare Super Too.

Placed in the Group I BRC Stradbroke Handicap as a three year-old, five year-old Hinchinbrook gelding The Virginian was transferred to the stable of Brett Cavanough following a successful Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign for Toby Edmonds that saw him win a Listed race at Doomben in May.

A homebred for Stuart Ramsey’s Turangga Farm, The Virginian tried hard when going down by a half a neck to Deploy in the Group III ATC Show County Stakes over 1200 metres.

The race was run in course record time of 1:08.06, so one can only think The Virginian is in for a fruitful spring campaign.

“Great run, first run for the big man (Brett Cavanough) so he’s obviously sharpened him up a bit and it was a big run,” said his rider Glyn Schofield.

The Marc Conners trained Super Too led all the way in the final race on the card, taking the 1000 metre contest by a length and three-quarters in a blistering 55.72 seconds.

A half-sister to brilliant Singapore stakes-winner Super One, she has now won four of 10 starts earning nearly $180,000 in prizemoney.
