Melbourne, September 10 – Talented Catbird filly Vankedisi opened her winning account at Moe last Friday with a slashing victory in the maiden event over 1000 metres.
Resuming from a spell of 30 weeks, the Lee Freedman trained filly thrashed her rivals to win by the best part of four lengths and looks to have plenty more wins in store.
A $150,000 purchase for Slade Bloodstock at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Vankedisi was bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park.
She is a full sister to Group Three placed Anhinga being from the good metropolitan winning Crested Wave (USA) mare Rippling Mill, who was covered again by Catbird last season.
Slade Bloodstock have had some good results with Yarraman sold yearlings having won with Vankedsisi, Anhinga and Miss Meerkat as well as unbeaten sprinter Here de Angels
Catbird also featured in South Africa where five year-old Garrington was back in the winners circle at Turffontein on Saturday.
Prepared by Buddy Maroun, Garrington carried 61.5 kg to win by the 1160 metre merit rated event by two and a half lengths taking his overall record to five wins and ten placings from 23 starts.
Garrington is the first foal of the Royal Academy (USA) mare Academy Royale, a winning daughter of stakes-winner Rassenvain.
Offered at the Perth Magic Millions in 2004 by De Grey Park, Garrington made $37,500 to the bid of Herman Brown Snr and was exported to South Africa.
