Melbourne, December 14 – The open juvenile event at Flemington on Saturday was won in dominant fashion by Carlton Forward, a $65,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park.

From the first crop of Group One winning sprinter Charge Forward, the Peter Moody trained Carlton Forward had the honour of providing his young sire with his first winner when he strode clear in the heavy conditions to take the 1100 metre event by more than three lengths.

“He was just lost out there, but he managed to knuckle down and get the job done” Moody said.

“He’s got plenty to learn that’s for sure but he did well, all you can do is win and he did the job.

“The wet is always a concern with every two-year-old, but you just don’t know how good the win was, they were trying conditions for young horses with the breeze in their face and the niggly rain, it’s not easy for them.”

Carlton Forward will now be sent to Queensland for a tilt at the rich Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic at the Gold Coast on January 10.

A modest purchase for Peter Moody from the Yarraman draft at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Carton Forward is the first foal of his stakes-placed dam Carlton Ace.

A slick juvenile herself, Carlton Ace is a half-sister to juvenile stakes-winner Carlton Spirit so there is every reason to think her progeny would be out and running early.

Carlton Ace has a Catbird filly entered as Lot 312 for the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and produced a Magic Albert filly this spring.
