Sydney, May 6 – Three year-old Catbird filly Jersey Lily was the most impressive winner at the Canterbury meeting on Wednesday coming from last on the turn to break her maiden by more than two lengths for the Les Bridge stable.
Second at her two previous runs when racing without luck, Jersey Lily made amends with a thoroughly dominant win in the 1250 metre restricted event for fillies, prompting her trainer to declare better wins are in store.
“We’ll take her along slowly and let her work through her grades, but I believe she’s a filly capable of winning a Listed race in the future,” said Bridge.
A full sister to metropolitan winners Brunei Tale and Off and Gone, Jersey Lily was not offered at public auction and has won close to $40,000 in prizemoney with a win and four placings from just six starts and the promise of better to come.
She is from the Royal Academy (USA) mare Smytzer’s Roylani, a half-sister to Group Three winner Royal Mak and daughter of former brilliant filly Paklani.
Her sire Catbird is enjoying a hot run at present with a stakes double last Saturday courtesy of Facile Tigre and Burgeis, something that is sure to add interest to his nine youngsters catalogued for the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale next Thursday, May 14.
