Sydney, August 10 – Ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird concluded the 2007/2008 racing season as the third leading sire of individual winners (97) behind only Encosta de Lago and Commands, again highlighting the loss resulting from his premature death in 2007.
Progeny of the son of Danehill (USA) have been straight back in the winning groove with the Bart Cummings trained gelding Dane Flyer zooming home to grab a narrow victory in the Ratings 91 event over 1350 metres at Rosehill on Saturday.
A notorious bridesmaid, Dane Flyer’s overall record stands at three wins and 13 placings from 33 starts with prizemoney of $141,580.
Dane Flyer was a $60,000 purchase for renowned Harry Lawton from the draft of Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds at the 2003 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is from the handy producer Positive Flyer.
A daughter of former high-class Group One winning mare Dinky Flyer, Positive Flyer is the dam of stakes-winner Come Fly With Me and stakes-placed Maritess, who is by Magic Albert.
The last yearlings by Catbird will be sold at sales in 2009.
