Melbourne, November 18- Prolific winner getter Catbird has been in full flight over the last few days with six individual Australian winners on Friday and Saturday led by the stakes-winning filly Catechuchu and smart sprinter Jennings, the pair notching a winning double at Sandown.
The classy David Hayes trained filly Catechuchu posted a long overdue stakes success when taking out the Listed MRC Twilight Glow Stakes over 1400 metres by a neck, showing tremendous courage and tenacity to kick back and win after being headed by the runner-up Satin Robes.
Beset by bad barriers and poor luck in running when campaigning in Sydney earlier this spring, Catechuchu has struck form with a vengeance since returning south and her overall record now stands at two wins and five placings from 12 starts with earnings of $237,900.
The Catbird filly will now be sent to Perth for their summer carnival and is likely to tackle the Group Three WA Champion Fillies Stakes over 1600 metres on Saturday week.
Purchased by renowned judge Mark Pilkington for $50,000 from the draft of Collingrove Stud at the 2005 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Catechuchu is from the Dahar (USA) mare Noble Fleur, a half-sister to Group Three winner Toy Image and stakes-winner and stakes producer Lucky Witch.
A full sister to Catechuchu is among 31 yearlings catalogued for Magic Millions 2007 over all sessions.
Lightly raced four-year old Jennings got his act together on Saturday scoring an impressive two length win over 1300 metres, his fourth from 10 starts with his earnings now just shy of $100,000.
Prepared by Mike Moroney, Jennings has at times struggled to deliver on his obvious potential but could be placed to advantage over the summer months in Melbourne for his American based owners, Mr and Mrs Lindsey Williams.
Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park Stud, Jennings fetched $80,000 at the 2004 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is the ninth foal of the Imposing mare Wycombe (NZ), a half-sister to highly successful sires Danewin and Commands.
