Hong Kong, December 15 – Ultra-smart Catbird four year-old Craig’s Dragon scored a brilliant win in the Class Three sprint over 1200 metres on International Day at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Ridden by Darren Beadman and trained by John Moore, Craig’s Dragon never looked in danger of defeat as he dashed right away to win by nearly three lengths under the steadier of 59 kg, taking his overall record to four wins and four placings from just 12 starts.

Craig’s Dragon was purchased for $150,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale where he was the only Catbird yearling in the catalogue.

Offered by Yarraman on behalf of the Cobcroft family, Craig’s Dragon is the 13th living foal of grand producer Steam Heat who passed away in 2006.

A prolific producer, the Salieri (USA) mare left a host of winners including the brilliant Group Three winner Hot as Hell and equally smart Listed winner Flaming Hot, who were interestingly sired by County, a Vain horse from the same female family as Craig’s Dragon’s sire Catbird.

Catbird also went close to siring a Group One winner when quality performer Green Birdie finished a gallant second in the Group One HK International Sprint behind Inspiration.

A versatile and consistent galloper at the highest level in Hong Kong, Green Birdie has won five races and placed seven times winning the Hong Kong Derby Trial and finishing third in the Group One Hong Kong Derby last season, before reverting to the sprinting trips for his current campaign.

The last crop of yearlings by ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird will be sold at sales in 2009 starting at the Gold Coast with Magic Millions where 22 of his stock have been catalogued in Sessions One to Five.
