Melbourne, March 11 – Champion European sire Invincible Spirit (IRE) shuttled to Australia for only a couple of seasons and posted a new Group III winner here on Saturday at Flemington in Spirit Song, whose dam is now in foal to Invincible Spirit’s young Yarraman Park based sire son I Am Invincible.

The Aaron Purcell trained mare has won six races and placed five times from 18 starts earning $279,201 in prizemoney, scoring a career best win in the Group III VRC Schweppervescence Trophy over 1600 metres.

Spirit Song is the first stakes-winner for her dam Lightning Rules, who is by Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule (USA).

Lightning Rules was one of 140 mares covered by I Am Invincible in his second season at stud last spring at a fee of $11,000 and the resulting foal will be a three-quarter sibling to Spirit Song.
