Newcastle, February 6 – Scoring a debut win for Patinack Farm at Newcastle on Saturday was three year-old Encosta de Lago colt Middlemount, a $660,000 purchase from the Yarraman draft at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
The John Thompson trained Middlemount had placed in two previous barrier trials so was well schooled for his first start and did a good job to win the 1200 metre maiden by half a length.
Middlemount is a half-brother to stakes-winner Fullazz and is the sixth foal of the Kenmare (Fr) mare Battonage, a half-sister to stakes-winners Loving Cup, Laudemio and Vintage Dance.
