Melbourne, February 5 – The twilight meeting at Moonee Valley on Friday kicked off with an open juvenile event over 1000 metres with victory going to well-related Redoute’s Choice filly Love in Spring, a close relation to leading first season sire Snitzel.
The Ross McDonald trained filly jumped from gate one with Glen Boss in the saddle, then settled in third position before finishing on strongly to win by the best part of a length in an encouraging debut.
A $300,000 purchase from the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Love in Spring runs for a syndicate that includes Yarraman Park and well known breeder and racing identity Ron Dufficy.
Love in Spring is the second foal of stakes-placed Snippets mare Full Bloom, who is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group Three winner Captain Bax and stakes-winner Snippets’ Lass, who is the dam of Group One winner and exciting young sire Snitzel.
Snitzel and his Group Three winning full sister Viennese are both by Redoute’s Choice, the same as Love in Spring, hence the close relationship.
Love in Spring made obvious appeal to the Yarraman Park crew as Snippets’ Lass was based at Yarraman throughout her stud career and both Snitzel and Viennese were foaled, raised and sold as yearlings by Yarraman Park.
