Gold Coast, March 28 – The second last crop of yearlings by ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird were eagerly sought after at the Gold Coast this week with nine youngsters averaging $141,944 providing a great return for breeders who went to him in 2005 off a fee of $22,000.
Top seller for Catbird was the flashy chestnut colt (pictured) offered by Yarraman Park from the Kingmambo mare Sakhalin (USA) that made $350,000 to the bid of Matthew Williams.
Catbird’s top filly was also sold by Yarraman, the daughter of Theatrical Star fetching $185,000 secured by Deburgh Equine.
Catbird is the sire of some 66 individual winners this season including Group One winner Cats Fun, Group Three winner Catechuchu and Group One placed filly Burgeis, so it’s no wonder buyers are keen to get hold of a Catbird while they can.
