Sydney, August 1 – Last season’s classy two-year old Diego Garcia looks to have returned from a winter spell in fine order after cruising to an easy barrier trial win at Randwick on Monday.
The Gai Waterhouse trained son of Catbird won three of six starts and over $300,000 last season including the Group Two STC Todman Slipper Trial.
“He was handy throughout and then sprinted nicely in the straight to win the trial quite comfortably,” said Richard Haynes, Racing Manager for Gai Waterhouse.
“Diego Garcia was ridden by Hugh Bowman who was absolutely delighted with him and Gai feels this trial will bring him on enormously.”
Diego Garcia is likely to have another trial in a fortnight before resuming.
