Sydney, January 7 – Talented four year-old Belmonte resumed from a spell with an encouraging performance at Rosehill on Saturday, surging to the line under 57.5 kg to grab third in the welter beaten just on a length.
Purchased for just $25,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2004 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne, the Bernie Howlett trained gelding rose to prominence with a string of wins that included the Listed AJC Carbine Club Stakes, followed by Group Three success in the BTC Doomben Classic and BTC Rough Habit Plate.
The striking baldy faced chestnut failed to strike top form in two moderate spring appearances, but his effort on Saturday would indicate he’s on the way back.
A son of Singspiel (IRE), Belmonte has won six of 16 starts earning $270,300 and his half-brother, to be offered as Lot 145 at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale by Yarraman Park, should certainly command interest.
Sporting a prominent white blaze, just like his half-brother, this athletic looking bay is by a prolific sire of winners in Beautiful Crown (USA), while his Group Three placed dam Misunderstanding, has the perfect score as a broodmare with four foals to race, all winners.
