Brisbane, December 27 – Catbird four year-old Firedrake led his rivals a merry dance at Doomben on Saturday leading throughout to win the 1200 metre Class Six event by a neck over Borsha’s Mark with four lengths back to the third place-getter.

Trained by Gillian Heinrich for the Heinrich Bloodstock Syndicate, Firedrake has won five races and placed six times from 17 starts earning $75,950 in prizemoney.

Firedrake was secured by Heinrich Bloodstock for $65,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2006 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and is the fourth foal of smart stakes-winning mare Flickering Fire.

A Listed winner of seven races and $223,965 in prizemoney, the daughter of Forest Glow (USA) also split high-class mares Camino Rose and Staging when second in the Group Two QTC Queen of the Turf Stakes, a race now upgraded to Group One status.

Firedrake is one of 47 winners sired by Catbird this season with the last crop of yearlings by the ill-fated Golden Slipper winner set to go under the hammer in 2009.
