Sydney, April 20 – The first million-dollar baby of the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale was sold by Yarraman Park Stud when they offered Lot 24, the Flying Spur filly from Cantenac.

A big strong athletic bay, she was snapped up by Ingham Bloodstock for $1million and provided her Arrowfield Stud based sire Flying Spur with his very first million dollar yearling.

“She was a lovely filly and it’s a great way to start the sale,” said Arthur Mitchell.

The star filly is a three-quarter sister to Group Three placed My Only Hope and her dam Cantenac (who sadly passed away last year) is a daughter of champion New Zealand racemare Burletta by Golden Slipper winning sire Marauding (NZ).

The previous most expensive yearling sired by Flying Spur was Golden Slipper winner Forensics who was also purchased from the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by the Ingham family, so they are certainly good judges of the breed.

Yarraman Park had reason to cheer the success of Sebring in the Golden Slipper at the weekend as his dam Purespeed, was bred at Yarraman Park in partnership with Hilton Cope and sold through their draft at the 2000 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $140,000.

Eight years is a long time in the world of thoroughbred breeding and a nice Flying Spur filly today has certainly gone up in value a notch or two!
