Canberra, March 7 – Unbeaten Foreplay two year-old Decision Time maintained his flawless record with a stylish win in the Listed Canberra Black Opal Stakes on Sunday to become the first stakes-winner for his fertility troubled sire.
The Clarry Conners trained youngster was sent out favourite following three impressive wins in easier grade and had no trouble keeping his record intact as he dashed clear to beat Lonhan (Choisir) by a length with Butt I’m Ready (More Than Ready (USA) a close up third.
"He’s a better horse than I thought he was," Conners said.
"You can’t win on the fence today. My instructions were to go out wide so it was a big effort.
"He just keeps getting better every time he goes around."
Decision Time is not nominated for the Golden Slipper, so connections will have to make a decision on whether to pay the late entry fee, although Conners is optimistic the gelding has earned a shot at the race and he should know having prepared past Slipper winners Tierce, Burst, Prowl and Belle du Jour.
Not offered for sale, Decision Time has now won at each of his four starts earning $272,150 in prizemoney and is from the metropolitan winning Just Awesome mare Daunting Thought from the family of English Group One winner Hittite Glory.
A stakes-winning son of Danehill (USA), Foreplay was retired to Yarraman Park where he stood at a fee of $13,200 for his debut season, however fertility troubles have sadly now curtailed his stud career.
