Melbourne, March 11 – A full sister to Group I SAJC South Australian Derby winner Zabeelionaire, promising filly Gondokoro broke through for a well-deserved first win at Moonee Valley on Monday providing a timely update for her yearling full brother who is headed for the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

A homebred for respected breeder Trevor Delroy, Gondokoro was sent around by her trainer Pat Carey in the Group I VRC Oaks and ATC Flight Stakes last preparation, so this 1600 metre maiden always looked an appealing option.

She ran up to expectation, travelling smoothly for Rhys McLeod before powering home to win by a length and a half, her first win in nine starts.

“We were hoping to take her to Sydney for the Vinery Stud Stakes (Group I) , so that was what we wanted to see,” said Trevor Delroy.

“She had a little setback, but she’s going really well now, which is good timing as I’ve got her full brother in the Inglis Easter Sale.”

Mr Delroy bought her dam Kisumu as a yearling and raced her successfully to gain some Black Type in running third in the Group III MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes, but his goal was always to retire the daughter of Carnegie (IRE) to stud and send her to Zabeel, which he has now done several times.

Mr Delroy sold Zabeelionaire through the Yarraman Park draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $250,000 and retained Gondokoro, with the current yearling, another colt by Zabeel to be offered by Yarraman Park as agent as Lot 156.
