Melbourne, November 1 – Consistent sprinter Facile Tigre continued his recent run of great form when taking out the Listed VRC MSS Security Sprint over 1200 metres at Flemington on Cup Day.
The Jason McLachlan trained gelding settled off the pace in the big field of 20 runners and found the line strongly to win by a length, his overall record now seven wins and five placings from 15 starts with prizemoney of $339,400.
The win was the second in three starts for the son of Catbird during a very successful Melbourne spring campaign.
“He should be unbeaten down here,” winning trainer Jason McLachlan said referring to the five-year-olds narrow second placing at Caulfield in mid-September.
“It does (mean a lot) because when I first went home from Sydney to join Dad in a training partnership he said to me that this horse will go places.
“I’ve taken my time with him and he’s starting to repay us.”
Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Facile Tigre (pictured courtesy Taron Clarke Photography) was bought by McLachlan Racing for $120,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and runs for a syndicate of owners including Tim Hughes, Michael Sullivan and Yarraman Park, who retained an interest in the gelding.
A stakes-winner at two, the son of ill-fated Catbird is one of two stakes-winners for the very good producer Cotton Bay, the dam of six winners including stakes-winner Stormcat Academy and former smart Sydney galloper Buzzy Henry.
A half-sister by Zabaleta (USA) to Group II WATC Western Australian Oaks winner Reflected Image, Cotton Bay was retired from stud this year.
