Sydney, October 18 – Sydney’s most improved stayer Lorne Dancer added another feature race victory to his growing tally when coasting away for an easy win in the Listed City Tatts Club Cup at Randwick on Saturday.

A courageous winner last start when slogging through the mud to win the Group Three AJC Craven Plate at Randwick on October 4, the Gai Waterhouse trained Lorne Dancer appreciated the better surface for this first attempt at 2400 metres and emerged with flying colours.

Lorne Dancer travelled sweetly in second spot and then set sail for home at the top of the straight racing well clear to win by three and a half lengths over Brave Lancer (Bahhare (USA) with Detroit Song (Carnegie (IRE) in third place.

“He’s got a lovely big long stride and the real bonus is he’s got a turn of foot,” said assistant trainer Tania Rouse.

“Where he goes from here I’m not sure but it’s a nice problem for Gai to have.”

A son of leading sire Danehill Dancer (IRE), Lorne Dancer has won five of his last six starts and has excelled when stepped up to 2000 metres and beyond, his overall record now reading seven wins and four placings from 13 starts with prizemoney of $331,020.

Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Lorne Dancer was bought by Gai Waterhouse for $70,000 at the 2006 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and is raced by a syndicate of seven owners.

Lorne Dancer is from stakes-placed Seattle Dancer (USA) mare Fabled, who produced a Foreplay colt last spring and is due to foal to Magic Albert.
