Melbourne, October 9 – Promising entire We’re Gonna Rock went within a long neck of a Group One victory when chasing home glamour mare More Joyous for a close second in the Group One MRC Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Mark Kavanagh trained son of Fastnet Rock has shown some real flashes of brilliance in his brief career to date and indicated a big prize is well within his reach when charging home from the back of the field to fail narrowly in his first attempt at 1600 metres.

“It was a terrific run and he really finished off well,” said his regular rider Michael Rodd.

A $180,000 purchase for his trainer from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, We’re Gonna Rock is the first foal of well related mare Harrow, a half-sister by Dehere (USA) to Group One winners Bluebird the Word and Porto Roca, who has been in the news this year as the dam of a Group winning three year-old in the UK in Monterosso.

We’re Gonna Rock has won two of seven starts earning $164,238, but is yet to win a stakes race, a situation that may be rectified sooner rather than later
