Brisbane, June 7 – A dominant winner of the Group II BRC Champagne Stakes last month, classy I Am Invincible colt Brazen Beau was beaten narrowly in the Group I BRC JJ Atkins Classic at Eagle Farm last Saturday.
The Chris Waller trained colt went down by a long head to the Gai Waterhouse trained Almalad in a driving finish to the 1600 metre feature.
Waller compared Brazen Beau to his former brilliant colt Zoustar, who finished second in this race last year before going on to claim two Group I victories at three over sprint trips.
“He’s more a genuine sprinter like Zoustar,” Waller said.
“He’s a bit like Zoustar given he’s compact and a strong masculine type.”
A $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Murrulla Stud for Ontrack Thoroughbreds, Brazen Beau runs for a big group of owners, who are entitled to be feeling very optimistic about his future.
Brazen Beau has already won nearly $300,000 from two wins and two seconds from just five starts.
The I Am Invincible stock were again popular at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast last week, his best result coming with a stunning colt from Love in Spring that made $180,000 for Yarraman Park when secured by Rogerson Bloodstock.
