Melbourne, February 23 – Third in the Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate last year, six year-old Catbird gelding Facile Tigre returned to Caulfield for another crack on Saturday and improved to finish a gallant second to Mrs Onassis.

Prepared by Jason McLachlan, Facile Tigre was resuming from a lengthy spell and ran the race of his life to be beaten a length.

Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Facile Tigre was bought by McLachlan Racing for $120,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has won seven of 20 starts earning in excess of $447,000 in prizemoney for his owners who include Tim Hughes, Michael Sullivan and Yarraman Park, who retained an interest.

A stakes-winner at two, the son of ill-fated Catbird is one of two stakes-winners for the very good producer Cotton Bay, who was retired from stud duties in 2011.
