Adelaide, April 22 – Unbeaten three year-old Here de Angels posted his first Black Type success at Morphettville on Saturday when he led most of the way to win the Group Three SAJC DC McKay Stakes over 1100 metres.
A $90,000 purchase for Slade Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Here de Angels has proven a problem child on more than one occasion for trainer Lee Freedman, but seems to have put all misbehaviour behind him judging by this slick performance.
The talented gelding looked ultra professional in notching his fifth win from as many starts, his prizemoney climbing to $132,000for his large syndicate of owners.
“It’s a big statement but I’ve got no doubt he’s up to Group 1 class,” said jockey Corey Brown, who has partnered the gelding at his last two wins.
“He’s done all the work today but was too good. Ridden with a sit and chasing I think he’ll be even better.”
Next assignment for Here De Angels is likely to be another step up in grade when he tackles the Group One SAJC Goodwood Handicap over 1200 metres on May 6.
The fourth foal of the Kenmare (Fr) mare Angelic Belle, Here De Angels was bred by Lisa Randle and sold privately to Yarraman as a foal.
