Talented I Am Invincible filly I Am A Star put the writing on the wall with an impressive win at Flemington two weeks ago and proved her potential when racing to a dominant victory in the Group III SAJC National Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday. Trained by Shane Nichols, I Am a Star looked a good chance to win when the filly she beat at Flemington last start, Sebring Dream came out and won at Flemington today. I Am a Star enjoyed a good run from gate one for Steven King to travel just behind the leaders and skipped away when it counted to win the 1200 metre sprint by three lengths. I Am a Star was a $40,000 Inglis Classic purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Broadwater Farm Thoroughbreds draft and has already won over $122,000 in prizemoney for owner Matthew Sandblom with two wins on the board from just three starts. Mr Sandblom also races her stakes-placed full sister Band on the Run, whose worth has been increased by her sister’s success. “She’s owned by Matthew Sandblom who is a prominent breeder and the plan was to get some black type with her,” Shane Nichols said. “She was going to win a long way out. Once she settled where she did, I thought she was always going to be strong. I would have been disappointed if she had been rolled.” Nichols said he is likely to send I Am a Star to the spelling paddock. “There’s nothing really for her here now and it’s a big ask to go to Queensland,” Nichols said. “Today we thought was a softer option than waiting till the spring in Melbourne to get some stakes form. Now that we’ve got that out of the way we can look at the fillies races in the spring.” I Am a Star was bred by Eales Racing and is the third winner for Star Band (USA), a half-sister by Dixieland Band to Group III winner Common World from the family of Australian Group I winner Pear Tart. She is the 12th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park’s I Am Invincible, who stands this spring at a fee of $55,000.
