Adelaide, September 10 – Magic Albert was in hot form on Saturday with a new stakes-winner after up and coming filly Tai Tai Tess scored a tenacious win in the Listed SAJC Morphettville Guineas over blue-blooded Redoute’s Choice filly Hurriyet.
The Robert Smerdon trained filly had been ultra impressive in working through her grades in Victoria and was sent out favourite for her first try at Black Type in the 1600 metre feature.
She jumped well and quickly found the lead for Steven King and kept going strongly in the straight to hold off the late charge of Samantha Miss’s full sister Hurriyet to win by half a length.
Tai Tai Tess is the 13th stakes-winner for her sire Magic Albert and was purchased by her trainer for $31,000 from the Racetree draft during Session Five at Magic Millions and has won four of six starts earning $90,288 in prizemoney.
Bred in partnership by Henry Field, she is the third winner and first stakes-winner from the Last Tycoon (IRE) mare Tycoon Tess, a half-sister to Group II winner Delta Form and daughter of dual Group I winner Arborea.
Tycoon Tess is at Newgate Farm where she is due to foal to Time Thief and will be booked back to Magic Albert, who was also represented by a smart winner at Rosehill in Ingham Magic.
The Chris Waller trained filly scored easily at her previous start at Canterbury and ran right up to that form to win this harder assignment by a nose.
Ingham Magic has always shown plenty of ability and was a close up fourth placegetter in the Listed ATC Widden Stakes earlier in the year, her overall record now two wins and three placings from seven starts with prizemoney of $112,380.
As her name suggests, Ingham Magic is raced by the Ingham family and carries their famous all cerise colours.
She was purchased by the family for $110,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Yarraman have entered her yearling half brother by War Pass (USA) for the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale series.
Ingham Magic is one of two winners for stakes-placed Catbird mare Mi Chiamo, who produced a full brother to Ingham Magic on August 13.
