The first feature at the big Magic Millions race day at Wyong on Thursday was the $100,000 MM Stakes for three and four year-olds with victory going to brilliant Hinchinbrook filly Flippant. Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Flippant was a two time stakes-winner in May and June at Scone and Doomben, before resuming from a spell with a lacklustre last in the Listed ATC Sir Brian Crowley Stakes. She pulled up with cardiac arrhythmia on that occasion, but had trialled well since with connections expecting a good showing in the 1200 metre sprint. Allowed to settle just off the pace by Kerrin McEvoy, she stormed to the line to win running away by more than a length, booking her ticket to the rich Magic Millions meeting at the Gold Coast on January 9. “She’d been super honest before that out of character failure, so it was good to find a problem,” said Peter Snowden. “It was a brilliant win today. She’s a lovely filly with a great pedigree, so she’s well on the way to making a real name for herself. “The Guineas race at the Gold Coast will be perfect for her – seven furlongs where she can take a sit.” A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase for McKeever Bloodstock from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft, Flippant runs for a big syndicate that includes Yarraman Park, who stand her sire Hinchinbrook. She has the overall record of four wins and a second from seven starts with prizemoney topping $234,000. She’s bred to good as the second winner from two to race for Lady Beckworth, who is a winning half-sister by General Nediym to the dam of Group I stars Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel. Closely related to Atlantic Jewel, who is by Hinchinbrook’s sire Fastnet Rock, Flippant was the most expensive filly from the first crop of Hinchinbrook, so it’s fitting to see her as his best filly to date. A three-quarter brother by Fastnet Rock to Snitzel, Hinchinbrook was the Champion Australian First Season Sire for 2014/2015 and is currently the leading Australian Second Season Sire by earnings with 20 winners of more than $1.4 million in prizemoney. Hinchinbrook has a sensational draft of 19 for Magic Millions. Click here to see them.
