Hong Kong, October 27 – Saluting at Happy Valley on Wednesday evening was Magic Albert five year-old The Wand, who took out the Class Three event over 1400 metres for John Size.
Formerly trained in Victoria by Robert Smerdon, The Wand scored at Moonee Valley in December 2010 under the name of Proud Albert in his last Australian start before transferring to Hong Kong.
A $48,000 purchase from the Ferndale Farm draft at the 2008 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, The Wand has won two races and placed three times from seven starts.
A half-brother to stakes-placed Regal Centre and Mr Centrefold, The Wand is the sixth winner from the Centaine mare Centre, who comes from the family of Group I sprinter Shellscrape and his Group I placed sister Red Tracer.
