ANZAC Day races at Randwick produced a nice winner for Go Bloodstock with their homebred I Am Invincible gelding Maori Chief breaking through for a well-deserved win in a lucrative $100,000 Super Maiden over 1250m.
Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Adam Hyeronimus, Maori Chief was resuming from a spell with one trial to tune him up and looked fit and ready to fire.
Placed at three of his previous five starts, Maori Chief put it all together this time to win by a couple of lengths.
“He jumped really nicely, put himself in a nice position and travelled great,” said Adam Hyeronimus.
“I always felt like the winner, even when he was a little bit lost over that last furlong when he skipped away from home.”
“He’s a horse that’s got a lot of upside as well. Fitness-wise, he’ll come; he’ll build off that again and his confidence and mentality will strengthen, so he very good today.”
Maori Chief is a half-brother to G2 winner Red Resistance and is the third winner from three to race for brilliantly fast G2-winning Lonhro mare Heatherly, who was bought by Go Bloodstock for $1.6 million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
I Am Invincible leads the general sires’ premiership by winners with 162.
