The opening race at Scone on Monday had a short-priced favourite and blueblood three-year-old I Am Invincible filly Cape Cod duly saluted in the famed Arrowfield colours.
Trained by Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich, Cape Cod was second on debut at Newcastle earlier this month over 900m and found the step out to 1300m much more to her liking.
Aaron Bullock had to get to work on her at the furlong, but when she hit top gear Cape Cod was much too good and opened up to win by nearly three lengths.
Bred and retained to race by Arrowfield and Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing, Cape Cod is a sister to G3 winner Isthmus and is the third foal and third winner from triple Group 1-winning Fastnet Rock mare Shoals.
A granddaughter of blue hen Shantha’s Choice (dam of Redoute’s Choice), Shoals had a yearling filly by I Am Invincible go through Inglis Easter this year in the Arrowfield draft and she was knocked down for $750,000 to The Flying Dutchmen.
Shoals had a filly last year by Zoustar, but will have no foal this year having slipped her 2025 cover.
Isthmus was the first foal from Shoals and she went to the stud for the first time last spring and is one of a small number of mares in foal to the late Wootton Bassett (GB).
