The record breaking Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale highlighted the demand for mares in foal to Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible with the two highest priced mares on the final day of trade on Thursday both selling in foal to him.
Group I winning Foxwedge mare Volpe Veloce made $1.9million for the Newgate Consignment when snapped up by Sheamus Mills B’stock/Longwood T’bred Farm/Peter Morgan, while Yarraman Park consigned Taste of Heaven made $1.6million for her US based owners when bought by Mitchell Bloodstock.
“We are very, very pleased,” Longwood Thoroughbred Farm’s Michael Christian was thrilled with the purchase of Volpe Veloce.
“She’s an absolute queen.
“It’s an absolute privilege to be able to buy her and we’re able to bring her home to Longwood which is great.
“We bought Rimraam from the Shadwell draft for $1.5 million on Tuesday night and thought she was the bee’s knees and we really wanted to get this mare – being able to secure her is a great thrill.
“Like Rimraam she will be on the farm for the next 12 years and hopefully produce some really nice foals and hopefully we can have a lot of fun over that time.”
Due to foal to I Am Invincible in early October, Volpe Veloce will go back to the Yarraman Park Stud based sire again this spring.
In total, there were nine mares offered that were covered by I Am Invincible and eight were sold at an average $1,142,500.
I Am Invincible stands this spring at a fee of $220,000 making him the most expensive sire in Australia and deservedly so.
