Goulburn, September 4- He’s by champion sire Fastnet Rock and trained by John O’Shea, so that’s reason enough for us to be optimistic about the future prospects of Spanish Matador.
Tuned up with a couple of recent trials, Spanish Matador was well fancied to win a competitive three year-old maiden over 1200 metres at Goulburn on Tuesday and kicked clear at the finish to win by nearly three lengths.
He ran the fastest time of all four races run at the distance on the day.
Spanish Matador was a $375,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for James Bester/Demi O’Byrne and runs for a syndicate that includes Coolmore Stud and Keith Biggs in whose blue and pink colours he runs.
Bred by Yarraman Park, Spanish Matador is a half-brother to stakes-winners New Edge, Play to Win and Violent Wind being one of six winners from Badinov’s Babe, a half-sister to Group I winner Bullwinkle.
