Talented I Am Invincible gelding Immortality shook off maiden status with a resounding first up win at Geelong on Friday giving promise of better things to come.
Sent off an odd-on favourite under Craig Williams following a close-up fifth in the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield last October at his career debut, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained Immortality overcame a torrid run.
Caught three deep facing the breeze the trip, Immortality won under a hand ride, cruising clear to win the 1200m contest by three and a quarter lengths.
Williams said the stable holds the son of I Am Invincible in high regard.
“He is a lovely horse, and they think a lot of him,” Williams said.
“He is very well bred; he’s been gelded and has been off the scene for a long time.
“They picked the right race – they are thinking of his future. He’s a nice horse with good ability, and if he stays sound, he will be an exciting horse.
“I was three wide, but it didn’t bother me in a maiden; he is better than them, which we saw.”
A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for Mick Price Racing from the draft of his breeder, Glenlogan Park, Immortality is the first winner from three to race for the former talented stakes-winner Hijack Hussy.
It was a pleasing result for Yarraman Park, which consigns Immortality’s half-sister Love To Dream (Written Tycoon) to the National Broodmare Sale (lot 988) with a November cover by Hellbent.
