Geelong, August 12 – Sporting the familiar royal blue and white colours of Shadwell, the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained colt Shaf gave his rivals a galloping lesson at Geelong on Tuesday when clearing out to win the 1100 metre maiden by five lengths as a hot favourite.
He jumped smartly for Michael Walker, quickly took control and dashed right way when shaken up to win as he pleased ay his second start.
An unlucky second at his only previous start before spelling, Shaf has returned in good order and will be heading for better company as he is entered for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas.
A $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell Australia from the draft of Yarraman Park, Shaf was the second most expensive yearling from the first crop of Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap winner Wanted.
Bred by Yarraman Park and partners, Shaf is a sibling to Group III winners Bliss Street and Jade Marauder being the third winner from stakes-winning Jade Robbery (USA) mare Jade Diva.
Jade Diva is due to foal this spring to Stratum.
