Four year-old I Am Invincible mare California Zimbol is a very good fresh horse and she showed it again at Rosehill on Saturday when resuming from a spell to win the Group III ATC Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m).
Turned out in fine style by Peter and Paul Snowden, California Zimbol finished hard with a well-timed run under Kerrin McEvoy to snatch a half neck win clocking a brisk 1:02.8 seconds.
Co-trainer Paul Snowden believes the best is yet to come from California Zimbol, who has now won four stakes races.
“She’s got a good record and can get to a good level. She’s fully mature now and is a big mare and is pretty strong,” said Paul Snowden.
“There’s a lot left in the locker and the ultimate goal is Group I glory.”
A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Asian Bloodstock Services from the Yarraman Park draft, California Zimbol has the overall record of six wins and four placings from 13 starts with prizemoney topping $555,000.
Foaled and raised at Yarraman, California Zimbol is a half-sister to stakes-winners From Within and Cruden Bay being the best of six winners from the good producing Anabaa (USA) mare Zimaretto.
Yarraman Park sold a colt by Astern from Zimaretto at Magic Millions last year for $725,000 to Asian Bloodstock Services, so he will also race for Hong Kong based owner Mr Liang as does California Zimbol.
Named California Zim Zim, he has also been given to Peter and Paul Snowden to train.
After missing for two years in a row Zimaretto was covered again last year by Astern.
