The boys from the bush got the cash in the first race at Canterbury on Wednesday with three year-old I Am Invincible gelding Raised a Legend casting off maiden status with a tenacious front running win as a rank outsider. Beaten at Bathurst, Narromine and Mudgee when placed in three of his previous six starts, the Mark Milton trained gelding saved his best for the big stage of Canterbury. He jumped fast for Joel Pracey-Holmes and quickly found the front, fighting on strongly down the running to hold off a determined bid from runner-up Elusive Star to take the 1200 metre maiden by a head. “He’s been very immature mentally and has thrown a few races away,” revealed Gulgong based Mark Milton. “It will do him a lot of good to stick on like that and win.” The win was a metropolitan first for both jockey and trainer, who will head into Christmas in high spirits! Not offered at auction, Raised a Legend is the second winner for Raise for Me, a speedy winning half-sister by Belong to Me (USA) to stakes-winning juvenile Ultimate Fever. His sire I Am Invincible has had a flurry of recent winners headed by last Saturday’s stakes-winner Sundance and has 37 entries for the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.
