Yarraman Park’s top class young sire Hinchinbrook narrowly missed Group I success on Saturday with his star colt Press Statement going under by a short margin in the ATC Randwick Guineas, but received nice consolation with talented Perth two year-old Whispering Brook taking out the Listed WATC Supremacy Stakes at Ascot. The Simon Miller trained filly was an easy winner at Belmont back in October and looked top class with this performance. She enjoyed the run of the race from gate one with Peter Knuckey in the saddle and bolted clear to win the 1100 metre dash by two and three-quarter lengths over expensive Snitzel colt Hurricane Jack. With two wins on the board from two starts and prizemoney of $102,400, Whispering Brook has further stakes goals on the agenda with the Listed WATC Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) in a fortnight next up before the Group II WATC Karrakatta Plate next month. A $45,000 Magic Millions National Weanling purchase from the Hillside Thoroughbreds draft for Aquanita Racing, Whispering Brook is the second winner for Artful Whisper (USA), a half-sister to stakes-winner High Maintenance. She is the fourth stakes-winner for Hinchinbrook joining Press Statement, Samara Dancer and Flippant. The leading Australian second season sire by earnings, Hinchinbrook is also making a big impression with his juveniles this year and is second only to his three-quarter brother Snitzel on the leading two year-old sires list by winners.
