Yarraman Park based Magic Albert posted winner number six in the last seven days when the John Hawkes trained gelding Magic Weekend saluted at Canterbury on Wednesday.

A well supported ‘market mover’, Magic Weekend found the line with a late rush to take the Benchmark 75 event over 1100 metres by a long neck.

A $150,000 purchase from the Huntworth Stud draft at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Magic Weekend is from the Grand Lodge (USA) mare Happy Camper and was the most expensive yearling by his sire sold in that year.

He has won three races and placed six times from 15 starts earning just shy of $80,000 in prizemoney and looks set for a good campaign.

The win of Magic Weekend followed a double at Muswellbrook on Tuesday for Make Magic and Albemagic, plus recent winners I Am Magic, Mayalbe and Banri Maeve all in the last seven days.

Magic Albert stands at a value fee of $13,750 and is free of Northern Dancer, Mr Prospector and Star Kingdom – he’s one outcross that does work.
