New Zealand, October 7 – Classy Magic Albert gelding Magic Cape ran a phenomenal race in the $2million Kelt Capital at Hastings in New Zealand on Saturday going down by a half head and a nose in a thrilling finish.

Second last start to Mandela in a Listed event over 1600 metres, Magic Cape was turned out in great order by Shaune Ritchie and ran the race of his life.

The lanky chestnut loomed into contention with a furlong to run and fought out the finish with top class mares Princess Coup and J’Adane finishing one-two and the champion Seachange a whisker behind Magic Cape in fourth place.

A $50,000 purchase from the draft of Windsor Park Stud at the 2005 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale, Magic Cape is the first living foal of the Kaapstad mare Cape City, a half-sister to Group One placed Quite Astute from the family of champion NZ filly Rosie’s Girl.

He has proven a great investment for connections winning four races and placing four times from 11 starts, his earnings climbing to $435,600.

Magic Cape is one of 10 stakes horses to date for Magic Albert who is serving his sixth season at Yarraman Park at a fee of $16,500.
