Sydney, January 21 – Talented Magic Albert six year-old Magic Weekend resumed from a spell to score a determined victory at Rosehill on Saturday in the Benchmark 80 event over 1200 metres.

Prepared by Hawkes Racing, Magic Weekend was tuned up with a couple of recent trials and gave plenty for his young rider Brenton Avdulla in the run to the line to win the 1100 metre dash by a neck.

“He’s a real professional this horse, but he’s had his ups and downs,” said Michael Hawkes.

“We set him for this race and it’s paid dividends.”

A $150,000 purchase from the Huntworth Stud draft at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Magic Weekend is from the Grand Lodge (USA) mare Happy Camper and was the most expensive yearling by his sire sold in that year.

He has won four races and placed 10 times from 21 starts earning over $155,000 in prizemoney and looks set for a good campaign.

Magic Albert is firing on all cylinders at present which is good news for the vendors presenting his stock at the 2012 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
