Hong Kong, November 12 – Smart Magic Albert sprinter Good Strike went on his winning way at Happy Valley on Wednesday evening taking out the Class Three sprint.
Stepping back to 1200 metres for the first time this season, the Almond Lee trained Good Strike settled back in the field and when angled into the clear on straightening for home he charged to the line to score by half a length.
The win took Good Strike to the top of the CSL Happy Valley Million Challenge, the gelding having had three runs at the track this season for two wins and a second.
"I think he’s the right kind of horse to win the Challenge, but I need to space his runs a bit – he’s a big horse, but not very strong," Almond Lee told South China Morning Post.
A barrier trial winner at Cessnock in June of 2007, Good Strike was sold privately to Hong Kong and was exported in July of 2008, with the outbreak of EI playing havoc with travel arrangements and delaying his arrival in Hong Kong.
As a result he’s had just seven starts for three wins and three seconds, so looks to have plenty of upside for the future.
Good Strike is one of five winners from the metropolitan winning Naturalism mare Cupro, who was covered by Magic Albert last spring and produced a full sister to Good Strike on August 26.
