Sydney, December 10 – Magic Albert was nosed out of a stakes victory on Saturday with his daughter Madittothemoon beaten a short half head in the Listed BTC Mode Stakes, but was quickly back in the winning groove with a strong victory for Magic Weekend at Rosehill on Wednesday.
A four year-old gelding prepared by John Hawkes, Magic Weekend made amends for an out of character first up failure when charging to the line to win the restricted event over 1100 metres.
“He nearly fell first up and had no luck at all so you just forget about that run,” said Michael Hawkes.
“He’s a very genuine horse and although he’s had a few ups and downs, he’s still improving.”
A $150,000 purchase from the Huntworth Stud draft at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Magic Weekend is from the Grand Lodge (USA) mare Happy Camper and was the most expensive yearling by his sire sold in that year.
He has won two races and placed four times from just 10 starts earning more than $50,000 in prizemoney and looks set for a good campaign.
Magic Weekend is one of more than 30 winners this season for Magic Albert, who has big drafts of yearlings at upcoming sales including 20 for the 2010 Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
