Sydney, August 30 – Talented Magic Albert filly Ellista opened her winning account at Canterbury on Wednesday with a dominant three length win in the fillies maiden over 1200 metres.
Sent straight to the front from a wide barrier, the Gai Waterhouse trained filly was always in control and clocked a slightly faster time than high priced colt Musket who scored in the previous race.
Ellista was having her third race start after turning in handy performances at the provincials on badly rain affected tracks.
Raced by a syndicate of Star Thoroughbreds owners, Ellista was snapped up by Denise Martin at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for just $50,000.
Bred by Mike Van Gestel and offered for sale by Carramar Park Stud as agent Ellista is the seventh foal of the Bataan mare Meine Tochter, a metropolitan winning half-sister to dual Group One winner Seascay.
Meine Tochter has been a regular visitor to Yarraman Park in recent years, having produced a yearling filly by Catbird and she is due to foal to him again later this spring.
Ellista is the sixth metropolitan winner sired by Magic Albert who stands at a fee of $11,000.
