Melbourne, December 3 – The David Hayes trained Fastnet Rock filly Rock and Roll defied a betting drift to score a tenacious half head win in the 1400 metre maiden at Ballarat on Wednesday providing a great result for her owners Tim and Jacqui Hughes.
Rock and Roll was allowed to settle midfield for champion jockey Glen Boss and when asked to give chase to tearaway leader Hold That Demon she knuckled down to her task strongly, charging home to score a narrow win at her fifth start.
A homebred for the Hughes, Rock and Roll was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park.
She is the fourth winner from Wooden Melody, a half-sister by Woodman (USA) to Group One winner Emerald Dream from the famed Eight Carat (GB) family.
Wooden Melody produced her first foal since Rock and Roll, when she delivered a filly by Encosta de Lago this spring.
